Barbie Doll Princess Hairstyle

We had an appointment to get pictures taken. I wanted her hair mostly down to show the length and something fairly simple. One of our favorite Barbie Dolls was the inspiration for this one!!
Start by making 2 headband parts. Part the front headband on the side and put in temporary elastics to keep out of the way. (I put the rest of the hair in a temporary ponytail as well to keep things separate while I was braiding.)
French braid the back headband section all the way across, ending it with a clear elastic right above the ear.Pull all the hair in the back up out of the way. Put some gel in the front sections to keep the hair sleekly in place and using water, comb both sides smoothly, joining in the back underneath with an elastic. (Add the leftover hair from the french braid in with this hair as you bring it back, hiding the elastic up front.)Bring the hair back down covering the elastic underneath. Now you can either leave it like this for the sleek and straight Barbie look.Or you can turn it into a curly Barbie hairdo. I prefer to curl it when we leave her hair down because, left straight, it always ends up looking tangled and stringy by the end of the day. I'm loving the look of braided headbands lately. Something very fairytale princess about it. (She loved this look as well.)

Our own little "Princess Barbie."

  6. She looks even extra cute!! On American Idol the girl with the tattoo had a braid accross the front, with her perfect little forehead. I LOVE your version though with the non braided hair at her hairline. You are amazing!! I'm totally doing this one on myself!
Thanks again for the Walmart gift card. It is SO FUN to have extra un-accounted for $$!!

I love how you get her parts so clean and slick her hair so smooth. Thanks for the headband idea and also, I did my 2 little girls' hair today in the easter basket weave. SO cute. They got a lot of compliments. I am looking forward to your next idea. You are super talented-THANKS!

  10. Your daughter has such healthy looking hair!! My daughters hair is only 2 years old and it doesn't have that kind of shine. LOL Do you use anything special? And do you have a secret for their flyaways?? I love this headband one.

  11. We just did this last week after watching Barbie as The Princess and the Pauper. It was the pauper, Erika's hair-do. My princess loved it.

  12. hello! im no expert in braiding, but my little girl just wants me to braid her hair. i even shown her your website and she loves it.

this may sound silly, but how do you divide the hair so neatly? should the hair be wet? id love to hear from you... you can visit me at http://www.mommyjourney.com and leave me a comment there :D thanks!

  13. Chickenista, Actually, I just use whatever shampoo and conditioner are cheap and on sale, (usually suave) LOL. I only wash her hair every other day and make sure I use conditioner every time. Also, I use a detangling spray from suave and also trim her ends every month or so. I think the natural texture of her hair has a lot to do with how shiny it is. I use the same stuff on my hair and mine is always frizzy looking :(

Chris, I don't know that there's any secret to getting the parts straight. Just keep at it I guess. My parts aren't always straight either but it seems the more I do hair, the easier it has become. And yes, I do think it's much easier to do hair when it's wet.

  15. I loved wearing this hairstyle for Easter. I had my mom do mine and my little sister's hair the same. I am in love with your website. Being a teenager you would think I would be able to play with my own hair a bit, but no, so I get my ideas from you. Thank you so much!

  16. My Girls both wore this one for Easter, and it was a BIG hit! The man behind us at church commented on how beautiful their hair looked. If a guy notices, it must be good! Thanks for sharing!!!

  20. I did this do on my daughter who also has very long hair. I got so many great comments, thanks so much. I had to use hotsticks instead of a curling iron though, the curling iron curls just dont stay alll day like the hotstick curls will. LOVE the hair do.

  24. Thank you for this blog! My princess and I sat down and she chose this style for today. It went so fast and she looks beautiful! I and thrilled with the results and encouraged to try more. She loved when I posted photos and loves that "barbie" hair can be real!

In answer to the hurtful anonymous comment -my daughters hair in MUCH thicker and also curly and can be hard to manage. This site gives me TONS of options that save me but don't always look exactly the same. I have refered many friends with babies that have wispy baby-fine hair so that they have a start to learn fun ideas.
Thanks for always sharing. Please keep it up!

  25. I know this is an old post--don't know if you'll even get this comment. . .By the way, I love your blog! Been stalking it for a while. Thanks! I have to ask how your daughter's curls look so defined and in place. Do you hair spray it before? Mousse? My daughters' curls fall right away.

  27. I love these hairstyles and just so Anonymous knows....my little girl is 3 years old. What girl doesn't have a few split ends? And it depends on the child and whether or not they are disciplined enough to listen to you and sit still for 20 minutes at the most!

I love these hairstyles....I am constantly using them! You are great! Keep it up!

  41. How do you make curly, bouncy hair flat and pretty like you daughter's hair? I tried your headband braid hairstyle on my sister, but it didn't work so well because her hair is so curly. Have any ideas???

  46. Can this be done with short hair? My daughter has chin/shoulder length hair and this is so adorable!!
Also, is there a special trick to getting it to stay put? I can never get my daughter's hair to stay in anything. Its very fine and silky.

  47. How is your daughter's hair so beautiful and long? I'm only 9 and I'm trying to go girly and my hair isn't long :( -it's only about a little longer than my shoulder- My hair can get pretty when i brush it, but after like 45 minutes it becomes messy :(
    Hope you can help :)
